Running is a healthy form of exercise, and 1889 Foundation is pleased to support several area running events throughout 2023! They are:
Highland Regional Park
Spring and fall sessions
The series is a five-week program held in the spring and fall for kids aged 2 years through 8th grade. Races are held once a week and offered age-appropriate running events including the 50-yard dash, the 75-yard dash, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile and the one mile run. The spring session begins on April 16.
Saturday, May 27
14-miler, 8-miler, and 5K
Peoples Natural Gas Park
This event is presented by and benefits he Johnstown Area Heritage Association and the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority. Through 1889 Foundation’s support, young people 17 and under can register FREE for any of the three races. Registration closes on May 7.
June 17
32-mile, 16-mile, or 7.5 mile endurance hikes
Black Lick to Ebensburg, PA
Participants begin at sunrise and are challenged to complete the entire 32 miles by foot before sundown. This is not a race, but rather a challenge, which tests your mental and physical ability to journey this distance. Presented by and benefits the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority.

This event is a fundraiser for Second Chance, which promotes organ donation in our area.
The entry fee is $25, (free for 17 and under) All runners receive a runners bag. Runners who register during pre-registration until Sunday, July 16 get a free t-shirt. Door prizes include $500 worth of Visa Gift Cards.
September 2
5K and 10K
The 10k out-and-back course will be along the entire Jim Mayer Riverswalk Trail in Johnstown that extends from Riverside to Sandyvale. Participants will follow the scenic section of the trail along the Stonycreek River and will pass by the Trail Art Murals near the old trolley bridge in Moxham. The 5k out-and back course will begin and end in Riverside, with a turn around point at Bridge Street. Presented by and benefits the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority.
1889 Foundation’s support means that registration for ages 17 and under is free.

Ebensburg, PA
Marathon, 15-miler, 5K, Bike Ride
Two days of running and biking along PA’s 2020 Trail of the Year at the 3rd annual Chernisky Ghost Town Trail-a-thon! 1889 Foundation is sponsoring FREE registration for ages 17 and under in this event.
