1889 Foundation is pleased to be funding free screenings for peripheral vascular disease! In this common circulatory problem, veins and arteries outside the heart are narrowed, reducing blood flow to your limbs. There is no cure for peripheral vascular disease, but the good news is that if it’s caught early it can be successfully managed.

Many patients experience mild or no symptoms, but some of the most common symptoms include:

  • Pain or painful cramps in your legs while walking or climbing stairs that subsides with rest
  • Weakness or numbness in your legs
  • Reduced hair growth on your legs
  • Coldness in lower leg or foot

Peripheral artery disease risk factors include:

  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure
  • Being over age 70
  • A history of smoking
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol

Remember, early detection is important! Screenings are been scheduled for the following locations and dates. For an appointment and to see if you qualify, please call Dawn at 814-534-9271.
