1889 Jefferson Center for Population Health

1889 Foundation has established the 1889 Jefferson Center for Population Health in Johnstown. The Center will identify, quantify and develop strategies for improving the health of the citizens of Cambria and Somerset Counties.

United Way of the Laurel Highlands

1889 Foundation collaborates with the United Way of the Laurel Highlands through a challenge grant that provides up to $500,000 in 1889 Foundation funds annually to increase the reach and impact of the United Way’s Community Impact grants.

Cambria City Cultural Partnership

This cooperative funding agreement will provide matching funds for capital improvements to four cultural entities in Cambria City (Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, Johnstown Concert Ballet, The Steeples Project, and Venue of Merging Arts), and eventually more cultural entities in Cambria and Somerset Counties through a cultural partnership to be established.

1889 Foundation collaborates with the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance on the Creative Health Impact Grant Awards. The annual awards provide 1889 Foundation funds to support arts programs related to health and wellness in Cambria and Somerset Counties.

Cambria County Drug Coalition

The Cambria County Drug Coalition was created in September 2016 after 1889 Foundation and the United Way of the Laurel Highlands coordinated several meetings to lay the groundwork for a collaborative working relationship among several organizations in the county. The Coalition is working to reduce and ultimately eliminate overdose deaths, reduce illegal drug use, expand prevention efforts, address treatment options for those who are addicted, and reduce crime.

Making an Impact

1889 Foundation has many donor-designated funds that were established with our predecessor organization, Conemaugh Health Foundation. We continue to disburse these funds as their donors intended, to support initiatives such as scholarships for students entering health care professions, arts-related causes and more.
