1889 Foundation is committed to improving the health and wellness of the people living in Cambria and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania.

1889 Foundation has established the 1889 Jefferson Center for Population Health in Johnstown. The Center will identify, quantify and develop strategies for improving the health of the citizens of Cambria and Somerset Counties.

1889 Foundation collaborates with the United Way of the Laurel Highlands through a challenge grant that provides up to $500,000 in 1889 Foundation funds annually to increase the reach and impact of the United Way’s Community Impact grants.

1889 Foundation collaborates with the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance on the Creative Health Impact Grant Awards. The annual awards provide 1889 Foundation funds to support arts programs related to health and wellness in Cambria and Somerset Counties.

The Cambria County Drug Coalition was created in September 2016 after 1889 Foundation and the United Way of the Laurel Highlands coordinated several meetings to lay the groundwork for a collaborative working relationship among several organizations in the county.
